April 2019
Warming To Spring
With winter behind us — fingers crossed — we are ramping-up for a busy spring with a Cowboy Shoot in Apri, two Fishing Derbies in May and our Pistol Chairman making noises about a Pistol Shoot in the near future; dates are giving in the Calendar section below.

In preparation for the Fishing Derbies we are "goat-scaping" the area around the pond again this year. The goats were a big success last year in cleaning-up the vegatation around the pond.

We will also be having a Clean-up Day on Saturday, May 4th to fluff and buff the clubhouse and grounds. We’ll start at 9:00 AM and go until the place shines, normally 2-3 hours. Y’all are invited just bring gloves, rakes, etc.

Cowboy Action Shoot, Sunday April 14, 10:00 AM
Our intrepid band of Cowboy Action Shooters, the Gunnysackers, are holding a Cowboy Action Shoot at SRGC on Sunday, April 14th starting at 10:00 AM sharp and running until 2:00 PM, or thereabouts.

There will be at least four spearate shooting scenarios. Cost for the shoot is $5; bring your own period guns or contact Ron Rice ahead of time and guns will be provided.

Ron can be reached at 781-985-0183 or yankeesass266@gmail.com

The range will be closed for general shooting for the duration of the Cowboy Shoot.

St. Paddy’s Lucky Target Skeet Shoot Wrap-up
We held our annual St. Paddy’s Lucky Target Skeet Shoot on Sunday, March 24. The weather was perfect for this shoot and the turn-out was great, all told, seven rounds took the field as evidenced by the full gun rack — first time in a long time.

The shooters lunched on a traditional Irish dinner of corned beef and cabbage prepared by Anthony Marini; a man of hidden culinary talents. Late in the afternoon Anthony cooked home-made manicotti, again delicious — thanks Anthony.

Winning the day was our Treasurer, Eric Page, who bagged a bottle of Jameson's whiskey and a shamrock decorated driver cover.

Study: ‘Assault Weapons’ and Magazine Bans Do Not Lower Homicide Rates
by AWR Hawkins in Breitbart News
A study on state-level gun control laws in the U.S. shows that bans on “high-capacity” magazines and “assault weapons” do not lower homicide rates.

The study was headed by Boston University School of Public Health’s Michael Siegel and another listed study author was Harvard gun control advocate David Hemenway.

The study, The Impact of State Firearm Laws on Homicide and Suicide Deaths in the USA, 1991–2016: a Panel Study, isolated four states to study ten different types of gun control to see if certain gun controls were successful in reducing homicide and/or suicide rates. Via their research, they discovered that “high-capacity” magazine and “assault weapons” bans do not lower homicide rates.

In an interview with Futurity.org, lead study author Michael Spiegel elaborated: “Although I completely understand the desire to ban assault weapons, I just don’t see empirical evidence that such bans have any substantial impact on homicide rates. These bans are most often based on characteristics of guns that are not directly tied to their lethality.”

He observed, “Laws regulating the sale of assault weapons are unlikely to have a large impact on homicide rates, because these weapons are used in only a very small proportion of homicides. The vast majority of firearm homicides in the United States are committed with handguns.”

The study Spiegel oversaw also shows researchers discovered “changes in household gun ownership were not found to be significantly associated with homicide or suicide rates.” This runs 180 degrees counter to the Left’s incessant claims that a gun in the house puts the homeowner at greater risk.

Quote Of The Month
“The media insist that crime is the major concern of the American public today. In this connection they generally push the point that a disarmed society would be a crime-free society. They will not accept the truth that if you take all the guns off the street you still will have a crime problem, whereas if you take the criminals off the street you cannot have a gun problem.”
