January 2019
Mark Your Calendars For These Two Dates
We’ve got a couple of events at the club in the near future; we host the monthly Plymouth County League meeting on January 16 and then on February 2 it’s the famous/infamous annual KC’s Game Feed.

Plymouth County League of Sportsmen Meeting
The Plymouth County League is an umbrella body for 20 sportsmen clubs in Plymouth County (website); SRGC is a member. On Wednesday, January 16th, SRGC is hosting the monthly Plymouth County League meeting which includes dinner. All members are welcome to attend free of charge! We could use help setting up and with clean up.

There will be no Skeet that night.

KC’s Game Feed
On Saturday, February 2nd, one of the best events of the year happens — KC’s Game Feed! This year marks the 40th anniversary of this popular event staged by the Minots Ledge Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.

For you new members, it’s this simple — all you can eat and drink for $20!

This event is a fund raiser for Ducks Unlimited so there are bucket raffles, auction items and special gun raffles. The MA compliant guns available are displayed on a large banner all you need do is pick the one you want. As the guns are sourced from a distributor, there is virtually an unlimited supply of each gun.

There are events for the kids (under 18 free) that include hot dogs and soda!

This event ALWAYS sells out and there are no advance tickets being sold. Plan on being at the club no later than 11:00 as entry to the event is closed when there is no more parking available.

Additional details are given on the event flyer and photos of last year’s Game Feed can be viewed here.

Maggie’s Drawers Shoot and Christmas Party Wrap-up
The Maggie’s Drawers Lucky Target Shoot did not go quiet as planned, turns out there were no white lucky targets left. Attempts were made to spray paint orange birds but the weather was uncooperative and rain prevented the painted birds from drying. To add to the woes, Maggie’s oversized bloomers were nowhere to be found. Speculation is they were purloined for use as a spinnaker.

Turnout for the event was lower than normal due to inclement weather. The winner of the shoot was Jack Kecskemety.

Our annual Christmas Party was held in the evening following the Maggie’s shoot. Despite a very wet night we had a full house; three full rows of tables running the length of the clubhouse, the booths were full plus the round table in the TV room.

Ron Rice did the honors as chef and presented us with a fabulous roast beef and/or grilled chicken meal with all the fixin’s. Additionally there was swordfish provided by Dave Glancy and prepared by Arty Johannesen who braved the rain to man the grill, scalloped potatoes brought by Anthony Marini and other goodies brought by the attendees.

As part of the festivities we had a raffle for two, ½-dozen lobsters kindly donated by Paul Figueiredo. Winning the lobsters were Beth O’Conner and Sue Lennon. The raffle took in $260 which will go towards financing our two fishing derbies in May. Photos of the party can be viewed at: bit.ly/SRGC_Xmas-18

The Brass Monkey Cowboy Action Shoot Returns
Many moons ago, our intrepid band of cowboy action shooters, the Gunnysackers, would put on a shoot in the dead of winter. This shoot was named the Brass Monkey Shoot after the term “It’s cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey”.

Saturday, January 12th marks the return of this popular shoot, this time on our new 50-yard range. The shoot starts at 10:00 AM and consists of four stages; entry fee is a paltry $5.

Experienced cowboy shooters and those with an interest in this fun shooting sport are invited to attend. Please contact Sass Yankee, aka Ron Rice, at 781-985-0183 or yankeesass266@gmail.com to register as a headcount is needed. New shooters please let Ron know if you will need to borrow guns for this shoot.

The 50-yard range will be closed for the duration of the match.

How Gun Free Zones Invite Mass Shootings
John Lott, Jr., Chicago Tribune, November 20, 2018
Most gunmen are smart enough to know that they can kill more people if they attack places where victims can’t defend themselves. That’s one reason why 98 percent of mass public shootings since 1950 have occurred in places where citizens are banned from having guns.

The national media tend to ignore case after case of mass public shootings being stopped by armed private citizens. Just a couple of days before the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh a concealed handgun permit holder stopped an alleged killer who was shooting blacks at a Kroger grocery store in Louisville, Ky.

National media outlets such as ABC and NBC covered the attack, noting that the alleged gunman told another white man that: “Whites don’t kill whites.” It sounded as if the gunman was merely reassuring a bystander that he had nothing to worry about. But reporters left out the crucial first part of the quote. The killer said: “Don’t shoot me. I won’t shoot you. Whites don’t shoot whites.” The other white person was pointing a permitted concealed handgun at the killer. Read the full John Lott article at: https://trib.in/2BQ9U06
