It’s Going To Be A Busy November
Two Big Events for November
The first big event is our annual Skeet Championship Shoot on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11th. There’ll be a trophy and bragging rights for the winner and prizes for second and third place finishers. Cost and whether or not there’ll be food has not yet been decided; we’ll pump out an email blast with details once they are known.

In honor of those who have served in the armed forces, members who are veterans get to shoot for free in this event, but they will have to provide their own, or purchase, ammunition.

Ready to blast the living heck out of those pesky Zombies? “Come On Down” and fill ’em full of lead at the Turkey Shoot on Nov. 18th. This is a family fun day with something for everyone. Apart from blasting zombies back to the twilight zone, there’s Lucky Targets with .22LR rifles — a favorite with the kids, Skeet, Standing and Swinging targets with shotguns plus Archery specifically for the youngsters. Refreshments will be available in the cluhouse.

As always, turkeys will be awarded as prizes. There’s plenty of notice on this event so mark it in your calendars. We’ll also need volunteers to help run the games — just an hour is all we ask. Those volunteering will be entered into a drawing for a turkey.

Club Officers for FY2019
The following members were elected at the Annual Meeting. As the slate was running unopposed the chairman of the Nominating Committee cast the one vote needed to elect the slate with the exception of the Membership Secretary slot which had no candidate.
President Mike Kinahan
Vice President Kenny Crowell
Secretary Richard Martin
Treasurer Eric Page
Membership Secretary Greg Sowyrda
Executive Officer Dave Glancy
Directors Bill Berry
  Arty Johannesen
  Phil Lennon
  Ron Rice
  Charlie Wood

We were initially without a Membership Secretary after the vote, but at the end of the meeting, Greg Sowyrda stepped up and volunteered to fill the position; he was immediately appointed by the President.

Dues
The club’s fiscal year begins on September 1st with dues becoming payable at that time. Members have until October 31st to pay without incurring a late fee. On November 1st members who have not paid their dues will be considered inactive and not in good standing and a $25 late fee will be assessed. Also, access to the 50-yard range will be terminated until dues are brought current and the late fee paid. On January 1st the late fee jumps to $50. A renewal form can be downloaded here: [Renewal form]

Rossi Pistol Recall
Rossi is recalling .38 Special and .375 Magnum revolvers built between 2005 and 20017 as these pistols, under certain circumstances, may fire if dropped. [More on the Rossi website]

Pistol/Rifle Fun Shoot, Sat. Oct 27
We’ll be holding a fun pistol and rifle shoot on Saturday, October 27th starting at 11:00 AM. The shoot consists of three stages, two pistol and one rifle. The pistol stages can be shot with any range-legal pistol, the rifle stage must be shot with one of the club’s .22LR rifles. Ammunition will be provided for the rifle stage, or you can use your own.

The stages are:

Ten Penny Challenge

Plate Full o’ Holes
Ten shots at a 6-inch paper plate at 30 feet. Plate will have a center dot to facilitate aiming. For a five point bonus, the shooter can opt to use a blank plate. Only shots in the 3½ inch diameter center portion of the plate count, shots in the rim are discounted. One point per qualifying round in the center.  [Photo]

Scrambled Eggs
Five eggs mounted vertically at 50 feet. One point per egg hit.

Winner is the shooter with the highest score and will receive a $25 Dick’s Gift Certificate. Cost to shoot is $5 with re-entries allowed.

Warm Club Hats
Our esteemed Executive Officer showed a sample of a very warm, fur-lined, bomber-style hat with our club patch at the Annual Meeting. These hats are just the thing when you are on the range in the depths of winter and a brisk northeasterly wind is whipping around your head and you can no longer feel your ears.

Cost for one of these one-of-a-kind hats is $25, please contact Dave Glancy if interested. A free Cup o’ Joe goes with each purchase.

By the way, the Glancy’s are missing a cat, please contact Dave if you have information regarding the whereabouts of said kitty.

Skeet and Trap
We shot about 1300 rounds of skeet in the past 12 months! An order of clays and shells has been placed with delivery expected soon.

The trap machine has been repaired by Tom Lesko, thanks Tom! Concrete has been poured and the walls made watertight. Once the electrical connections are made we’ll be back in business shooting trap.

Cowboy Action Shooting
Our intrepid Cowboy Action Shooters, the Gunnysackers, were last seen galloping off into the sunset in a cloud of dust. They do seem to bring back their fair share of trophies from all the shoots to which they go.

Words of Wisdom
I have been sick and NEEDED a doctor.

I have encountered trouble and NEEDED a police officer.

I have lived through times of war when our nation NEEDED our military.

I have NEEDED farmers every day.

I have even NEEDED an auto mechanic, a plumber, a house painter and a lot of other everyday people.

But I have NEVER, not even once, NEEDED a pro athlete, a media personality, or a Hollywood entertainer for ANYTHING!

The United States has become a place where entertainers and professional athletes are mistaken for people of importance.

Confirmed! Over 2 Million Annual Defensive Gun Uses
An unpublished Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study confirms Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck’s findings of more than two million defensive handgun uses (DGUs) per year.

Since the early 1990s, Kleck has maintained that there is a minimum of 760,000 DGUs annually. That is his low estimate; Kleck and research partner Marc Gertz have contended the actual number is closer to 2.5 million.

Kleck reaffirmed his numbers on February 17, 2015, explaining that while plenty of naysayers have criticized his findings, none have been able to offer empirical evidence to counter them.

Now, a CDC study conducted on data from 1996, 1997, and 1998 has been uncovered. The study, which was never released to the public, shows approximately 2.46 million DGUs per year. [Read the full Breitbart article]
